There were 319 hectares of agricultural land in danger of pollution (excluding soil only contaminated with copper and zinc ) in Taiwan, which were located in Northern Taiwan (83 ha), Central Taiwan (200 ha) and Southern Taiwan (36 ha). The Farmland Soil Heavy Metal Investigation and Contaminated Site Control Plan was commissioned by the Taiwan EPA in 2002, and divided the abovementioned farmlands into 3 regions (100 hectares, 108 hectares and 111 hectares) and conducted soil surveys. Since most of the land serial numbers are cross-grid, the actual sampling area is about 619 hectares, which is more than the original planned survey area of 319 hectares. Since the promulgation of the Soil and Underground Water Pollution Remediation Act in 2001, the method of detecting the content of heavy metals has been the aqua regia digestion method. The analysis results have shown that there were 282 hectares of farmland with heavy metal concentrations that have attained the Soil Pollution Control Standards, and there were 138 hectares of farmland with heavy metals concentrations between the Soil Pollution Monitoring Standards and Soil Pollution Control Standards.
