In 2009, the Environmental Protection Administration conducted the "Investigation on Soil Pollution Potential of Agricultural Land near Lead-Containing Processing Facilities ". A total of 4 soil sampling events were carried out in the Tongancuo section of Wuri District, Taichung between May and July, 2007. A total of 3 parcels were publicly declared as soil pollution control sites according to the results from abovementioned sampling. In November 2007, the Agriculture and Food Agency also collected 27 samples from the same parcels and found that the lead and cadmium concentrations of 3 sets of brown rice were higher than the standards for the tolerance of heavy metals in rice. In order to grasp the facilities of high lead pollution potential in the country and avoid the recurrence of pollution incidents in the Tongancuo section of Wuri District, Taichung, through this project, a material flow database of lead life cycle in Taiwan was established and the top ten lead-containing processes with high pollution potential were screened. This project assessed the impact of lead-containing processes on the environment and crops, the fate and transport of pollutants, and the possible sources of lead pollution in agricultural land through lead stable isotope ratio analysis technology. Also, the technical manual of investigation and remediation of heavy metals and inorganic anion was formulated, which will be provided as a guide for future management.
